Spindled

Spindled
Sanna Sorrick

Early morning sun
reflects on webs
silver rice noodles
spindled by the enthusiasm
of newborn spiders
in tall grass
their territory staked out
like an anthropology dig

Each square section indicates
the geography of a city block
like township
& range—

only

mowed down bi weekly
as by a black tornado
so the musty earth mixes
with chlorophyll grass
leaving its survivors
to rewire their claims
at 3rd and Vine
like telephone repairmen
working in the rays
of the late morning sun
